These are very thin and sit on the surface of the teeth, not unlike false finger nails.
A thorough assessment is required before deciding on veneers. They must only be prescribed when the mouth is found to be in good health and the way that you bite your teeth together permits their use. They may not be suitable for a patient that grinds their teeth. A detailed examination will help decide whether porcelain veneers are a suitable treatment for you. A ceramist at the laboratory will provide a wax mock-up of what the veneers will look like on moulds of your teeth. At this stage it can be altered until you approve their appearance. From this we can minimally prepare your teeth using a special guide only removing areas on the teeth that would protrude. We can then bond on your temporary veneers which will give you a ‘trial smile’. This very secure and worn for a couple of weeks to see if you are completely satisfied with the way they function and look. From this an impression will allow the ceramist to make identical porcelain veneers. They will then be cemented permanently into place.
Porcelain veneers if placed correctly can last 10-15 years. You need to be aware that they may need to be replaced in the future.
When providing veneers it is vitally important that the case is correctly planned in order to ensure we achieve the end result the patient is after.
Using these professional restorations we can correct a wide variety of cosmetic concerns.
